The Lanka Premier League has returned with its third season, which will begin on December 6, following considerable discussion and consideration. Due to Sri Lanka's ongoing political and economic crises, the five-team tournament, which was originally slated to take place in August of this year, has been postponed.
The organizers are hopeful that the third tournament would follow the success of the prior two, giving fans the much-needed respite they need after a trying year. The LPL schedule states that the final between Jaffna Kings and Galle Gladiators from the previous season will be reenacted for the fans.
The upcoming competition, which will feature five teams competing for the top prize, will take place in three different locations. During the group stages of the competition, a double round-robin format will be used. The final set will be played on December 23 in Colombo. Jaffna Kings, the defending LPL champions, have dominated the competition and will be motivated to claim the top spot this time around.
However, the other competitors, especially Thishara Parera's Kings' match day 1 opponents Galle Gladiators, will pose a serious challenge. The Jaffna Kings' tenaciousness denied the Gladiators the opportunity to win the competition on two separate occasions.

TEAM SQUADS
The player draft took place on July 5, 2022, however as the tournament's start date was moved from August to December, significant adjustments to the teams' composition were made afterwards.
Due to their demanding overseas travel plans and the 2022–2023 Big Bash League season, English and Australian players later withdrew from the competition.
However, the majority of the locally signed players were kept by their individual organizations, and ever since the tournament schedule changed, the franchises were free to choose new players without holding a draft. During the middle of the 2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup, Danushka Gunathilaka engaged in scandalous sexual activity without consent in Australia and withdrew from the competition.
Match Schedule and Highlights
The 2022 Lanka Premier League starts yesterday ( December 6) where 2 matches held , on the 1st match Jaffna Kings win against Galle Gladiator by 24 runs and in the 2nd match Kandy Falcons , get their 1st win for this season after beating Colombo Stars by 109 runs.
For today’s match (December 7), Dambulla Giants will be battled against Jaffna Kings for the 3rd match of this season , followed by the 4th match where Galle Gladiator will lock horns against Kandy Falcons.
This tournament will take 20 matches in the league stage from December 6 to December 20
And the 4 teams who will qualify to semi- final match will be battled in the playoffs on December 21 to December 22 and will advance to the final match that will be held at R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium on December 23.
