Every year, as they eagerly await some outstanding additions to the squad that can aid them in the regular season, supporters of the teams they support in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction are filled with optimism. This year was no different, as several players started a bidding battle during the mini-auction conducted in Kochi on Friday. Some players were sold for enormous sums of money, while others were unable to find a home in any franchise.
The Lucknow team participated in the auction for the second time this year after enjoying a respectable campaign in the last iteration of the prestigious competition. However, the team relied primarily on their top order to score runs while the middle order lacked the spark needed to spur the team to massive scores and an advantage. Prior to the upcoming season, the management snagged players from the auction who might make an impression and lead them to success.
After acquiring players like West Indies hitter Nicholas Pooran for INR 16 crores at the auction, the franchise seemed to have improved their team. Amit Mishra, the oldest player to participate in the auction, was also hired by LSG for a base salary of INR 50 Lakh. The team will try to capitalize on the experience of veteran pacer Jaydev Unadkat, who is also scheduled to wear the Lucknow jersey for the upcoming campaign.
