2023 IPL Auction : Top 5 Unsold Overseas Players

2023 IPL Auction : 11icBlog2

The Indian Premier League supporters witnessed a remarkable auction in which 405 players were put up for bid. Only 80 of the total participating names were able to find buyers. Sam Curran, Cameron Green, Ben Stokes, Nicholas Pooran, and Harry Brook were among of the most expensive players to bid for, and they also dominated the event.

Players with experience like Kane Williamson, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, and Sikandar Raza turned out to be excellent buys at their base pricing. On the flip hand, a few foreign players who weren't sold in the event experienced disappointment as well. After looking at their status and records, it can be concluded that they deserved to be purchased. They were overlooked by the teams in the auction despite their significance and great T20Is statistics.

Here are the five international cricketers who were unsold at the 2023 auction.

Chris Jordan

Since 2013, Chris Jordan has worked with the cricket squad of England. His performance hasn't been up to par over the past few years, which has caused his career graph to recently decline. But when it came to the T20 World Cup 2022, the management of the team put their trust in him, and in return, he delivered for England with his impressive bowling performance (3/43) against India in the semi-final.

He was selected with a base price of INR 2 crore in the IPL 2023 auction. The speedster didn't find any buyers during the event, so he had to leave empty-handed. After giving the team dismal bowling performances the year before, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) severed ways with the England pacer last month.

Jordan made an appearance with the Men in Yellow in the 2022 iteration of the lucrative league, but he was only able to pick up two wickets in four games, at a terrible economy rate of 10.52. In terms of his entire IPL career, the 34-year-old has played in 28 games and taken just 27 wickets at a miserable economy rate of 9.32.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman

Due to his adept off-break spin bowling, Mujeeb Ur Rahman made his IPL debut in 2018. The Afghan spinner, who was representing Punjab Kings (PBKS) in his first season, displayed his talent by taking 14 wickets in 11 games at an economy rate of 6.99. The bowler displayed subpar performance in 2019 and 2020, taking just three wickets in seven games.

Rahman was trusted by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to bolster their bowling lineup in 2021. Even though he only played in one game all season, he gave it his all. The spinner played to the best of his ability, recording 2/29 figures in four overs against the defending champion Mumbai Indians.

He was unable to compete in the tournament in 2022 after failing to sell in the mega auction in 2021. He was unable to secure any franchises at the mini-auction in 2023, and as a result, he will not be allowed to participate in the league's 2023 season. He is one of the best spinners in T20Is, though, with 49 wickets in 36 games and an amazing economy rate of 6.22.

Tabraiz Shamsi

For the Proteas in the limited-over formats, Tabraiz Shamsi is a top bowler. His bravery has helped the team win several important battles. He participated in the IPL for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2016 and the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in 2021, respectively. The left-arm spinner, however, was unable to use the ball to his advantage, only taking three wickets in four games for an economy of 9.18.

He was hoping to make a comeback in the 2023 season after sitting out the 2022 edition of the competition. At the mini-auction, he was put up for bid with a base price of INR 1 crore, but the 32-year-old wasn't taken by any franchises, therefore he didn't sell.

Following his absence from the 2022 competition, he hoped to return in the 2023 campaign. He was placed up for sale at a base price of INR 1 crore at the mini-auction, but the 32-year-old wasn't picked up by any franchises, therefore he didn't sell.

Jimmy Neesham

Since 2012, Jimmy Neesham has been a part of New Zealand's international team. Over the past ten years of representing his country, Neesham has brought his team many happy moments with some truly great all-around efforts. Many cricket fans still remember his T20 World Cup 2021 performance against England in the semi-final (27 runs off 11 deliveries).

The Rajasthan Royals (RR) released the Kiwi all-rounder since he wasn't able to make a significant impact on the squad during the first three games of the 2021 season. He also submitted his name with a starting bid of INR 2 crore to participate in the tournament's 2023 edition, making the mini-auction vital.

However, no franchise showed interest in him during the event, perhaps due to his appalling IPL statistics. He has so far participated in league matches for the Delhi Capitals (DC), Punjab Kings (PBKS), Mumbai Indians (MI), and Rajasthan Royals (RR). But the 32-year-old did not take use of the opportunities he was given, scoring just 61 runs and taking just eight wickets in 12 games.

Dawid Malan

International cricket is well-known for Dawid Malan's aggressive batting approach. He has scored many game-winning runs for England. The English cricket team granted him the opportunity to play in a few T20 World Cups because of his incredible T20I statistics. He reregistered for the mini-auction in 2023 after being rejected for the mega-auction in 2022.

His base offer was 1.5 crore INR again, but he was unable to entice any franchises to submit a bid. He was anticipated to be a significant name at the event due to his more than five years of experience playing internationally and his strong T20I statistics. The 35-year-old has a strike rate of 135.71 and 1,748 runs in 55 T20Is.

Despite having a ton of experience playing league cricket, he was unable to land a job with a team during a few lucrative league auctions. He was a member of the Punjab Kings in 2021, however the team only let him play in one match. He managed just 26 runs off 26 deliveries when playing Delhi Capitals.

Even they are unsold to IPL Auction , these five overseas players could have performed in the upcoming tournament as they have give some standout performances and matches to their teams in T20Is tournaments.

And as for the teams and players who set to play for the upcoming IPL tournament , who would able to get the title ?
