The Adelaide Strikers and Perth Scorchers will square off in the Big Bash League's 16th game in 2022–23. The Scorchers and Strikers have both had successful starts to the season, with two and three victories, respectively. The Strikers suffered their first loss of the season to the Heat on Friday, December 23, whereas the Scorchers enter the game off of a significant victory over the Stars. Chris Lynn and Peter Siddle, among others, add valuable experience to the Strikers' respectable squad. But against a well-oiled Perth Scorchers team that includes Jhye Richardson and Faf du Plessis, they will have to play at their absolute best. A win in this match would give both teams a chance to take the top spot in the standings, making for an exciting match at Perth Stadium.
Adelaide Strikers vs Perth Scorchers
Perth Scorchers won by 3 wickets
That contest in Perth is definitely tense. Once again, the hosts prevail, but they may have made things more difficult than necessary. The Scorchers would have anticipated crossing the finish line without having to struggle as much after a stellar bowling performance that held the Strikers to 133. They started battling right away in an effort to force the issue on a heated pitch. When they were 17-3 in the third over, that appeared to be working to some extent before they quickly ran into trouble. Inglis gave the innings some momentum in the final over of the powerplay before being cheaply dismissed, leaving his team at 48-4.
Rashid Khan was held back until the very end because of some poor shot selection, but the Strikers persisted thanks to some strong bowling. Before the break for drinks, Perth had scored 72-6 thanks in large part to Matthew Short and de Grandhomme's perseverance and effective use of pressure. The captain assumed command at that point and bided his time in a pursuit where the necessary rate wasn't really a factor. In order to prevent the Scorchers from losing wickets and keep the Strikers at bay, Jhye Richardson did a good job of playing second fiddle.
Perth drew nearer to victory thanks to their 43-run partnership. This knock might be the one to change Ashton Turner's fortunes because he has had trouble finding his best form this season. After this memorable victory, stay for what he has to say at the presentation.
