Robin Uthappa, a former India batter who has been a brave and outspoken supporter of Indian cricketers playing in international T20 leagues, seems to have found his groove right away in his first chance at it. Uthappa had to make a sacrifice in order to achieve something else, just like everything else in life. In order to pursue opportunities outside of India, he quit international cricket.
Uthappa is one of the two Indian cricketers participating in the inaugural International League T20 season, along with Yusuf Pathan, another recently retired player from India. In ILT20 2023, Pathan and Uthappa will both represent Dubai Capitals. Despite never having played for Delhi Daredevils or Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League, both players are currently making a living by playing for a group of the same people in the UAE.
Uthappa, who has scored 122 runs in two innings and is currently the second-highest run scorer in the tournament, has a strike rate and average of 61 and 154.43. Pathan, in contrast, has so far only played one inning and scored 6 (5) runs. Uthappa, 37, is also keeping wickets for the Capitals, which improves his standing in the starting XI. There is no denying that if Uthappa has a strong season, he will soon have more opportunities to play in T20 matches, even though ILT20 doesn't technically qualify as a T20 tournament.
Uthappa, who ranks ninth among all IPL scorers, has scored 4,957 runs in 205 games over 15 seasons, averaging 27.51, with a strike rate of 130.35, including 27 half-centuries. His total also includes 27 centuries. However, because he participated in ILT20, Uthappa is no longer allowed to play in the IPL. Uthappa wasn't put up for the IPL 2023 auction before being one of the eight cricketers released by Chennai Super Kings a few months ago as part of their preparation. The auction would have taken place before the IPL's 16th season.
The IPL will begin on March 20, 2023, and the final game will be played on June 1, 2023, per the IPL Schedule 2023.
