ICC Player of the Month - 11icBlog2

The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the recipients of the ICC Player of the Month awards for January 2023, with India's Shubman Gill winning the title for men and England's Grace Scrivens taking home the honor for women.

After playing an important role in the first ICC U19 Women's T20 World Cup, Scrivens becomes the youngest player to win the ICC Women's Player of the Month title. She was a dominant force with the bat and the ball throughout the competition, and her all-around efforts helped her win the Player of the Competition award. The captain of England, in a same vein, had exceptional leadership qualities as she led her side to the inaugural Final.

White ball cricket's Shubman Gill was awarded the title of ICC Men's Player of the Month for January after a month that established a record. The prolific run-scorer scored heavily against both Sri Lanka and New Zealand in ODI matches, which made up the majority of the month's runs for the free-scoring batsman.

Let us know more about the 2023 ICC Player of the month for January winners.

2023 ICC Women’s Player of the Month for January :

Grace Scrivens

Scrivens stood out during a month wherein she performed as a batter, bowler, and captain in England's campaign to the Final at the ICC U19 Women's T20 World Cup, which saw several superstars come onto the international stage.

The 19-year-old, who captained her team in seven games, had great success in the middle, scoring 293 runs at an average of 41.85, including three consecutive half-centuries in wins over Rwanda, Ireland, and the West Indies. Along with her outstanding batting performances, Scrivens also claimed nine crucial wickets at an amazing average of 7.11 during the tournament, including the crucial one that ensured England's three-run semifinal victory over Australia and secured their spot in the Final.

The England starlet defeats fellow Australian nominees Phoebe Litchfield and Beth Mooney, who both had outstanding short-format performances in January, to become the third winner from England in as many months, following in the footsteps of Jos Buttler and Harry Brook, who won the ICC Men's Player of the Month awards in November and December, respectively.

2023 ICC Men’s Player of the Month for January :

Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill of India gets the ICC Men's Player of the Month title for the first time after another outstanding run of ODI cricket performances. The 23-year-old batter astonished spectators with a lethal blend of smooth and attacking strokeplay over the month of January, scoring 567 runs, including three scores of 100 runs or more.

Gill's standout performance in a month filled with high points was a remarkable double-hundred in the thrilling triumph over New Zealand in the series opener in Hyderabad. His unbeaten 208 came in just 149 balls with 28 boundaries, which was an astonishing performance given that it made him the youngest double-centurion in ODI history and that everyone else around him appeared to struggle on a challenging wicket for batters.

Between this innings and the next, two further century were managed to score: 116 in a dominant performance over Sri Lanka and 112 against New Zealand in the final ODI.

By beating fellow countryman Mohammed Siraj and New Zealand's Devon Conway in the international voting, Gill triumphs over a strong field to win the prize. By accomplishing this, he appears to take over as the first Indian winner from Virat Kohli in October 2022.
