Despite promises of a smash hit, the outcome was somewhat predictable. Her efforts along with those of her friends Ellyse Perry and Nicole Bolton resulted in the 76ers being able to pull from a delicate powerplay to a solid 178/6 as a result of Gardner's efforts along with those of her friends. Beaumont and Litchfield played with total freedom and, more importantly, with complete timing, which got Thunder off to a borderline insane start during the first half. 79/0 on a cool North Sydney evening gave skipper Perry the sweats. In the end, it was Ecclestone who triumphed with a proper darter, sliding beneath that high back-lift, to take out the dangerous Beaumont. As a result, there was a steady decline from then on. Using a combination of off-pace and into-the-pitch bowling, Kate Peterson sealed the Thunder's fate. As a result, skipper Haynes found it to be a bit too much as the table-toppers demonstrated why they are ranked so highly.
